Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton accused state Rep. James Talarico (D-TX), his Democratic Senate rival, of election fraud after a report alleged that Talarico registered to vote at his mother’s Austin address shortly before filing to run for a Texas House seat.

The Federalist reported that Talarico registered at the address in December 2021, days before the candidate filing deadline, as he prepared to campaign in a newly drawn district where he had not previously lived.

Paxton seized on the allegations Tuesday, accusing Talarico of disregarding Texas election law to secure a safe Democratic seat.

“James Talarico has proven he has zero regard for Texans and the rule of law,” Paxton wrote on X.

“He’s been lying to voters and shamelessly committing election fraud to hold onto power.”
