Democrats’ claims that an armed man “lunged” at Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton in a violent “attack” are unraveling after police released a dramatically different account of what happened.

Acton’s campaign initially announced that an “armed individual” had “lunged” at the Democrat during Sunday’s Canfield Fair, leaving “multiple people” injured.

The alarming account rapidly triggered condemnations of “political violence” from prominent Democrats across the country.

However, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office subsequently revealed that the suspect’s weapons were never drawn and that the two people who fell were knocked over as security confronted the man while he pushed through the crowd.

Acton herself was never injured.

Police have also refrained from describing the confrontation as an “attack” or attempted assassination.

Democrats Rush to Condemn ‘Political Violence’

The incident unfolded at approximately 2:30 p.m. while Acton was visiting the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent at the Canfield Fair.

Shortly afterward, Acton’s campaign released a statement portraying the encounter as an armed assault.

“While attending the Canfield Fair, an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people,” the campaign said.
